An English-speaking friend wants to spend a two-week holiday in your region and has written asking for information and advice.
Write a letter to your friend. In your letter,
- offer to find somewhere to stay
- give advice about what to do
- give information about what clothes to bring
You should write at least 150 words.
Dear Sara,
I hope you are doing great. I am very excited that you are going to spend your holiday here in Minneapolis.
Firstly, you need to make sure that you have a place to stay while you are here. Hotels are quite expensive here. The best place would be The Towers apartments since they have very affordable temporary stay houses, and I can help you out with finding the place. I will reserve a house under your name.
There are a number of places that you can visit here. My favourite place is The Grandma's, a water world. Also, don't forget to see The Mall of America, as it is the largest mall in the country. Apart from these, you can also visit Lake Calhoun, which is the largest freshwater lake. A friend of yours has recently written to you asking for advice about a problem at work. You have had a similar problem at your workplace in the past.
Write a letter to your friend. In your letter,

- suggest possible solutions to the problem

Dear Tim,
I'm very delighted to hear from you and glad to know that you`ve already commenced building your career as an actuarial analyst with a prestigious insurance company. In your letter, you mentioned some issues about transitioning from student life to work life. I`d like to share with you my experience and advice.
Actually, it's a conundrum that most graduates have to meet and tackle. I totally understand your confusions since I also had a tough period at the beginning of my career. You know, there won't be textbooks and lecture notes anymore, and you have to learn everything by yourself.
Fortunately, my line manager was quite supportive and arranged a mentor to give lots of useful guidance. I got heaps of questions and made many errors when I ran the quantitative models. So, my suggestion is those regular communications with your manager and do not hesitate to ask for help from your colleagues. Usually, one word from an experienced actuary can a stitch in time saves nine.
