CÁCH VIẾT MỞ BÀI (INTRODUCTION) TRONG IELTS WRITING TASK 1

Bên cạnh hướng dẫn rất kĩ bài phân tích cũng như cung cấp bài sửa kĩ càng của IELTS TUTOR cho học sinh lớp IELTS WRITING ONLINE của IELTS TUTOR đi thi hôm 22/8/2020 đạt 7.0 IELTS WRITING, IELTS TUTOR cũng hướng dẫn thêm cách viết mở bài INTRODUCTION trong IELTS WRITING TASK 1

• Câu Introduction của Writing Task 1, thực chất sẽ là câu Paraphrase lại cho đề bài mà đề đã cho các em
• Nhiệm vụ là các em phải bao gồm hết tất cả những yếu tố mà đề bài đã nêu, như:
  • ngày tháng năm
  • đơn vị
  • tất cả các category đính hết đầy đủ vào câu Introduction.

IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:

• Chỉ cần viết duy nhất 1 câu Introduction
• Diễn đạt lại đề bài theo ý riêng của mình, không dài dòng, không ý kiến cá nhân, không nhận xét, không số liệu.

• Chỉ cần thay thế những từ trong đề bài bằng những từ đồng nghĩa 

Đề bài: The pie charts show the main reasons for migration to and from the UK in 2007

Xác định các từ và cụm từ đồng nghĩa như sau:

• Show = illustrate, compare
• The main reason = the primary reasons, the primary causes
• Migration to and from the UK = people came to and left the UK
• In 2007 = in the year 2007

==> The pie charts illustrate the primary reasons that people came to and left the UK in the year 2007

• graph = line graph
• chart = bar chart/ pie chart/table/flow chart
• the diagram = the figure
• the map = the diagram
• shows = illustrates (or ‘compares’ if the graph is comparing), compare…..in terms of….
• trends in = changes in
• US consumption = consumption in the United States
• information = data, figure, number, illustration, indicator
• to produce forecasts = to forecast
• the total number = the overall number
• various mobile phone features = different functions of mobile phones
• maps show = diagrams illustrate
• an island before and after = some changes to an island
• people in USA = the Americans, American people
• a group of = The + adv (no –s): the poor, the old, the unemployed
• the number of = the figure for
• the proportion of = the figure for = the percentage of=the rate of
• in three countries = in the UK, France and Spain (i.e. name the countries)= in three different countries = in three countries namely….
• from 1999 to 2009 = between 1999 and 2009 = over a period of 10 years/over a 10-year period = in a duration of + time (10 years)
• in 1999 = in the year 1999
• in 1980 and 2000 = over two separate years/figures are given for 1980 and 2000/in two different years

3.1.2.1. Cách 1. Biến đổi từ loại của keyword

Tức là nếu đề cho từ loại (ví dụ là danh từ) thì sẽ biến đổi thành từ loại khác (ví dụ là động từ)

Ví dụ 1:

The graph below shows the contribution of three sectors – agriculture, manufacturing, and business and financial services to the UK economy in the twentieth century.

• Contribution (N) → Contribute to (V)
• The bar chart illustrates how three areas namely Industry, Agriculture and business and financial services contributed to the economy of the UK from 1900 to 2000.

Ví dụ 2:

The chart shows the participation by young people in sports by gender in Great Britain in 1999.

• Participation (N) → Participate (V)
• The bar chart demonstrates how young people in Britain participated in sports in terms of gender in 1999.

Ví dụ 3:

The two pie charts below show changes in world population by region between 1900 and 2000.

• Changes (N) → Change (V)
• The two pie charts indicate how the world population changed in terms of region from 1900 to 2000.

3.1.2.1. Cách 1. Sử dụng các cụm từ đồng nghĩa có thể thay thế cho nhau

Ví dụ 1: 

The bar chart below shows the employment of all workers by gender and occupation in the UK in the year 2005.

-> The bar chart illustrates the percentage of British male and female employees working in different areas in 2005.

Ví dụ 2:

The bar chart below shows the percentage of people in Great Britain living alone by age and sex in 2004/2005.

-> The bar chart demonstrates the percentage of British men and women living by themselves in terms of age in the year 2004/2005.

Ví dụ 3:

The graphs below show the types of music albums purchased by people in Britain according to sex and age.

-> The bar charts represent the percentage of the British buying three different kinds of music albums in terms of gender and age.

Các cụm từ thay thế trong các ví dụ trên:

• People in Britain by gender -> British males and females
• Young people in Japan by sex -> Japanese young men and women
• According to -> in terms of
• Types -> kinds
• Living by themselves -> living alone.

Có một tip nhỏ là với các đề bài task 1 có các nhân tố như gender/sex; Place (eg: Britain, the USA, …) các bạn có thể paraphrase bằng cách kết hợp các nhân tố này với danh từ chỉ người thành các danh từ ghép như trên các ví dụ nêu trên bên cạnh việc sử dụng các synonyms để trực tiếp thay thế các từ trong đề bài.

VD: People in Britain by gender -> British males and females

Các bạn có thể sử dụng những cấu trúc câu sau đây:

a) The …chart/graph shows/illustrates/compare…….in terms of……. ==> cấu trúc này gần như áp dụng được cho mọi bài nhé!

Đề bài: The line graph below compares the percentage of people aged 65 and over from 1940 to 2040 in three countries

Introduction:

• The line graph compares three countries, namely A, B, and C in terms of the proportion of 65-and over-year-old people between 1940 and 2040.

b) The …chart/graph shows/illustrates/compare how to + V

Đề bài: The diagram shows the process of producing cement for building purpose

Introduction:

• The diagram illustrates how to produce cement from A and B for building purpose.

c) The …chart/graph shows/illustrates/compare how S + V

Đề bài: The two pie charts below show changes in world population by region between 1900 and 1909

Introduction:

• The two pie charts illustrate how global population changed according to a region from 1900 to 1909

d) HOW (BY WHICH) THE + KEY NOUN + VERB

• Ví dụ: The pie charts illustrates how annual spending by a school in the UK changed every 10 year.
• Ví dụ: The chart below shows how frequently people in the USA ate in fast food restaurants between 2003 and 2013.

Đề bài:

The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries.

Introduction:

• The line graph compares the percentage of people who are 65 or more years old in the USA, Sweden and Japan from 1940 to 2040

• Tip 1: Khi viết introduction, chuyển từ “This/These graph(s)” sang “The graph(s)”
• Tip 2: Loại bỏ từ “below” vì bạn sẽ không vẽ lại biểu đồ trong bài report của mình
• Tip 3: Sử dụng động từ thay thế: show = illustrate = demonstrate = indicate = give information on…
• Tip 4: Ngoài việc thay các diễn đạt thời gian/ từ đồng nghĩa cho danh từ trong bài, các bạn có thể tìm xem trong câu có keyword là danh từ rồi chuyển sang dạng động từ và ngược lại, sử dụng công thức:
  • The graph shows (Main noun) of/in/by something/somebody…… The graph illustrates how something/somebody + (Verb) …
• Tip 5: Nếu trong câu hỏi chứa cụm từ “the figure for” “the number of” “the quantities of”, bạn có thể viết lại bằng cách đổi thành “HOW MANY” hay “HOW MUCH”
  • Ví dụ: The graph compares how many noise complaints were made.
  • Ví dụ: The chart indicates what percentage of the world’s oil resources are held,…

• Tip 6: Nếu câu hỏi chứa cụm từ “the proportion of’ “the number of” “the quantities of”, bạn cũng có thể đổi thành “WHAT PROPORTION OF + Noun” “WHAT NUMBER OF + Noun”
