    • Main idea 1: They raise ethical and societal dilemmas, questioning the sustainability of a rapidly aging population and the strain it would place on resources and healthcare systems.  
      • Supporting idea: Overpopulation could lead to increased competition for limited resources, exacerbating inequality and potentially compromising quality of life.
      • Example: As the global population continues to grow, so does the demand for food. This is putting a strain on agricultural resources, and leading to increased competition for land, water, and other inputs.     • Main idea 2: Furthermore, they argue that longevity could lead to stagnation, as individuals may become resistant to change and less inclined to innovate.
      • Supporting idea:

        • This could lead to a resistance to new ideas and technologies, which could stifle innovation.
      • Example: Japan has one of the highest life expectancies in the world, and as a result, the average age of the Japanese workforce is also very high. This has led to some concerns that the Japanese economy is becoming stagnant, as older workers may be less willing to change jobs or learn new skills.

However, he went on to live for another 55 years, during which time he published several ground-breaking books and papers.
    • Main idea 2: Additionally, a longer lifespan could strengthen family bonds and relationships, providing more opportunities for intergenerational connections.
      • Supporting idea:
      • Example: A grandmother who lives to witness the growth of her grandchildren and the emergence of their own families becomes a valuable source of wisdom, experience, support, and guidance for her grandchildren as they navigate the trials of parenthood.
