Many scientists agree that excessive junk food consumption is harmful to health, with some believing education can resolve this issue, while others argue that education alone is insufficient. I align with the former perspective.

Those who believe education will not work argue that junk food is heavily marketed, readily available, and often cheaper than healthier options. Marketing strategies, such as featuring characters in movies drinking sugary sodas or candy companies using social media to promote their products, make junk food appealing and hard to resist. Moreover, low-income communities may have limited access to nutritious foods and rely more on inexpensive, calorie-dense junk food. For example, a study in Chicago found that people living in food deserts were more likely to be obese than those with better access to healthy food. Addressing these systemic issues requires more than just educational campaigns; it demands policy changes and economic interventions to ensure healthier food options are accessible and affordable.>> Form đăng kí giải đề thi thật IELTS 4 kĩ năng kèm bài giải bộ đề IELTS SPEAKING quý đang thi (update hàng tuần) từ IELTS TUTOR

On the other hand, proponents of education argue that it can raise awareness about the adverse health effects of junk food, such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and dental problems. Educating people about these risks can lead to healthier dietary choices. A study published in the journal Appetite revealed that informing participants about the health risks associated with junk food consumption resulted in reduced junk food intake and an increase in healthier food choices. Additionally, with proper education, individuals can make more informed decisions regarding their diets, understanding nutritional labels, portion sizes, and the importance of a balanced diet.

In conclusion, while both perspectives offer valid insights, I find myself aligning more closely with the former perspective that emphasizes education as a fundamental solution to address the detrimental effects of excessive junk food consumption.
