Another notable advantage is the development of self-reliance (tự lập – the ability to take care of oneself without help from others). In many Asian households, especially in Vietnam, it is common for parents to make decisions and handle daily chores for their children. However, when placed in a foreign country, students must take full responsibility for their lives. They must manage their budget (quản lý ngân sách – handle their own financial matters), cook meals, and solve problems independently. These life-changing experiences (trải nghiệm thay đổi cuộc sống – experiences that have a profound impact on one’s development) help students become more mature and resourceful (chín chắn và tháo vát – able to handle difficulties and think independently). For instance, Vietnamese teenagers who are used to parental assistance in daily life become more independent after living abroad, thereby cultivating resilience (trau dồi khả năng phục hồi – building mental strength to adapt to challenges).
In conclusion, although international exchange programs may involve initial hurdles, they offer invaluable benefits that help shape more competent, independent, and globally aware young individuals.
