        • Many older adults retire from their jobs, which can lead to a loss of purpose and identity. 
        • This can be due to a number of factors, such as the death of a spouse or partner, the loss of friends and family members, or moving to a new place. 
        • Loneliness and isolation can lead to depression, anxiety, and other health problems.
      • Example: A study published in the journal Psychology and Aging found that older adults who were bored and had little to do were more likely to report feeling depressed. The study's authors suggest that this may be because boredom can lead to rumination, which is the tendency to dwell on negative thoughts.
