Another significant drawback is that peer pressure often erodes (gradually destroys – làm xói mòn) individuality and promotes blind conformity. In highly image-conscious (overly concerned with appearance – quá chú trọng hình ảnh) peer groups, adolescents may suppress their genuine interests to align with prevailing norms. This pressure to conform can lead to a loss of self-identity (mất bản sắc cá nhân), as individuals prioritise social approval over personal values. For example, in many high schools, the widespread influence of fashionable trends compels students to imitate their peers, even when such trends conflict with their own preferences, thereby undermining creativity and self-expression.

In conclusion, although peer pressure can occasionally encourage positive actions, its tendency to foster risky behaviours and suppress individuality makes it a force whose disadvantages clearly outweigh its advantages.
