    • The First degrees in Arts and Sciences lost popularity, whereas the Masters and Doctoral courses gained popularity after a period of nearly three decades.

Overall, while first degrees (bằng cử nhân đầu tiên) in Arts and Sciences declined in popularity (mức độ phổ biến), advanced qualifications such as Master’s and Doctoral degrees became more widespread (lan rộng, phổ biến hơn) after nearly three decades.

In 1980, only 12% pursued (theo học) a Master’s in Arts, whereas merely 2% obtained (giành được) a PhD in the same field. Similarly, the share of PhD holders in Science accounted for 13%. By 2008, however, Doctoral qualifications had become more prominent (nổi bật), with PhD Arts climbing to 7% and PhD Science surging to 30%. Graduates with Master’s in Arts also rose slightly to 13%.

By contrast, less progress was seen in other fields. In 1980, nearly 20% had a first degree in Science, compared with 29% holding Master’s in Science.
