Nowadays, a significant amount of children’s free time is devoted to watching television and playing computer games. I totally agree that this trend has detrimental (gây hại | harmful) effects on children’s mental abilities (khả năng trí tuệ | intellectual abilities).

Firstly, excessive exposure to television can seriously undermine children’s cognitive ability (khả năng nhận thức | ability to think and understand). Many TV programmes and movies contain graphic violence (bạo lực phản cảm | explicit violent scenes) or sexual images that are clearly age-inappropriate (không phù hợp độ tuổi | unsuitable for a certain age group). When children consume such content repeatedly, they may become desensitised (trơ lì cảm xúc | emotionally less sensitive), which weakens their moral reasoning (lập luận đạo đức | ability to judge right and wrong) and critical-thinking skills (kỹ năng tư duy phản biện | ability to analyse information logically). Secondly, playing computer games for prolonged periods can be equally harmful to children’s mental capacity (dung lượng trí tuệ | amount of mental power). Many games promote a sedentary lifestyle (lối sống ít vận động | physically inactive way of life), causing children’s minds to remain mentally idle (trì trệ tinh thần | under-stimulated). As human brains are not designed to stay inactive, excessive gaming reduces children’s learning capability (năng lực học tập | ability to acquire knowledge) and weakens their problem-solving skills (kỹ năng giải quyết vấn đề | ability to find solutions). For instance, children who spend hours gaming often struggle with concentration in classrooms, demonstrating a reduced intellectual capacity (khả năng trí tuệ | overall mental power) compared to their peers.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that excessive TV viewing and computer gaming significantly impair children’s mental abilities by limiting cognitive development, emotional growth, and intellectual engagement.
