For example, California’s work-release initiative enabled non-violent offenders to work in agriculture and manufacturing, reducing prison costs while promoting rehabilitation. Moreover, forcing offenders to provide services to the underprivileged is arguably more meaningful than locking them up. Traditional prisons often breed resentment and diminish the prospect of reintegration into society, whereas rehabilitation-focused systems, like Halden Prison in Norway, emphasize vocational training and skill development, enabling inmates to return as responsible citizens.

In conclusion, while prisons guarantee security and justice, channeling offenders’ talents into productive work is a more sustainable and socially beneficial solution.
