Today, many countries are increasingly alike because people can purchase the same goods worldwide. This essay argues that this trend is a negative development due to its detrimental (gây hại – harmful) effects on cultural identity and its ability to make tourism less meaningful.

The first reason why this phenomenon is negative is that it poses a grave threat (mối đe doạ nghiêm trọng – serious risk) to a nation’s cultural distinctiveness (sự khác biệt – uniqueness). Each country possesses long-standing traditions, customs, and practices that are considered their ancestors’ most precious heritage (di sản quý giá – valuable legacy). However, the widespread availability of identical products—from fast-fashion items to global food chains—has accelerated the erosion (sự xói mòn – gradual destruction) of these cultural features. For instance, in many Asian cities, traditional marketplaces are gradually being replaced by international brands, resulting in the diminishing presence (sự hiện diện suy giảm – declining appearance) of local craftsmanship and indigenous goods.>> IELTS TUTOR gợi ý tham khảo CẦN VIẾT & THU ÂM BAO NHIÊU BÀI ĐỂ ĐẠT 8.0 SPEAKING & 7.0 WRITING?

Another compelling reason why this development is negative is that it makes global tourism increasingly monotonous (đơn điệu – lacking variety). Tourists often travel abroad to experience new lifestyles, food, and cultural environments. Yet, when every place looks and feels the same due to shared consumer products and standardized experiences, travelling loses its intrinsic appeal (sức hấp dẫn vốn có – inherent charm). As a result, destinations become interchangeable (có thể thay thế cho nhau – replaceable), discouraging tourists from exploring new countries. A clear example is that many cities now offer identical shopping malls and food outlets, leaving visitors with little incentive to immerse themselves in authentic local culture.

In conclusion, the increasing similarity among countries is a negative trend because it undermines cultural diversity and reduces the unique value of international tourism.
